My Music Video for Band for Band
Research Blog: My Music Video for ‘Band for Band’
By Alejandra Janeiro
I'm working on a music video for the song ‘Band for Band,’ by Central Cee and Lil Baby. The project can allow me to practice various filmmaking techniques and express the themes of ambition, luxury, and chasing success. My intention in this video was to depict how it would feel when you actually put in time and effort, which then leads you to achieve your goals, symbolized by scenes of designer products, private jets, and winning moments.
CAMS:
Camera Angles, Movement, and Shots One of the main techniques I am focusing on is CAMS: Camera Angles, Movement, and Shots. Moods I would want to set for this video are those of luxury and accomplishment; hence, I would want angles and camera movements that stress these qualities. There would be a low-angle shot of, say, me stepping onto a private jet. This shot captures it as if I'm on top of the world and really puts across the idea of new heights. Also, I am experimenting with the wide shots to capture the full setting of these high-end places so as to give it a rich expensive vibe.
Sound:
Another very important element in the making of this video is sound. Being a music video, the song itself will create a mood; I feel like adding other sounds to this to make it more immersive. For instance, during the jet scenes, I'm thinking of adding a very subtle sound effect of the jet engines humming in the background. This would enhance the feel of realism within the video and place the viewer in the setting. I'm also making the audio of the song crispy, clear, to really drive the whole video.
Editing:
This is where it all comes together. To make it look like I'm entering a private jet, I'll be using some clever editing techniques. I plan on using transitions that make it feel seamless as the scenes cut from one luxury setting to another. I'll be adding effects, such as motion blur, which will be helpful in scenes where the scenes are moving fast to keep up the pace of the song. In the scenes where I reveal the designer items, such as the Gucci bags and shoes, I'd like close-ups where the camera zooms in on labels to point out the gentleness.
CLAMPS:
Costumes, Lightings, Acting, Makeup, Props, and Setting
Using the CLAMPS is another large part of my music video. My attire will play a major role in depicting the success and high fashion of it all. I'll make sure to wear theme-driven clothes, like designer pieces, to help identify with the goals for the video. Not to mention, lighting will be important, too: it will most likely be bright and natural outdoors, and maybe softer indoors to achieve a classier look. I'll pay extra attention to the props and settings, ensuring that everything inside the frame supports a luxurious theme and helps depict the story of chasing big dreams.
Final Thoughts:
I'm learning how to use different techniques in CAMS, Sound, Editing, and CLAMPS to clearly state the message through this project. My idea is to inspire viewers to go after their own dreams and to picture themselves reaching success. This music video project is not only about depicting designer brands and luxury but also about sending the message that hard work can lead you to the life you want.
